SYNOPSIS:
Heather Poyser, a woman of means, is married to Rick, the CEO of a large industrial manufacturing company, leading a life of luxury. They own a Manhattan Brownstone on the Upper East Side, a house in the Hamptons, and drive luxurious cars. One day, Rick is called back from the Hamptons to cover for an employee with a broken arm due to a looming deadline. Despite promising Heather he wouldn't undertake the work himself, Rick, who suffers from epilepsy, engages in welding and has a seizure, resulting in a fatal fire accident.
Heather is left heartbroken and devastated, only to soon discover that they are financially destitute. Rick had somehow managed to squander all of their money. Their cars are repossessed, homes face foreclosure, and Heather's snobbish friends turn their backs on her. Adding insult to injury, Heather learns of Rick's contact with a woman in Las Vegas. Feeling betrayed, her curiosity drives her to seek out this woman, only to realize that infidelity wasn't the driving force behind Rick's relationship with her. Instead, it was Rick's gambling problem that led to their financial ruin.
Consequently, Heather must find a job, a task more challenging than she could have anticipated. Her daily train commute and time spent in the Coffee Car introduce her to a group of Manhattan-working women whom she befriends, relying on their support like never before. Among them, she encounters Jeff, a man she initially dislikes, but who gradually grows on her. They visit museums together, although she remains emotionally detached. Jeff's affection for her surpasses her feelings for him.
Despite job losses and discouragement, Heather's perspective changes when she uncovers a secret about Jeff that reshapes her view of him and the world.
